Abstract
Background: Dental caries is a significant health problem among the people of all ages but the magnitude of the problem is greatest
among young children. As far as the population of Solukhumbu District, one of the remote areas of Nepal, is concerned, data is not
available regarding dental caries and oral hygiene status.
Objectives: The objective of this study is to determine the oral health status of school children in remote area, Dudhkunda municipality
of Solukhumbu.
Materials & Methods: The survey was carried out in 3079 children of 37 schools of Dudhkunda municipality, Solukhumbu. Out of
this, 1578 were male and 1501 were female children.
Results: Out of the total examined, 60% of the patients showed presence of at least one decayed teeth, 10% showed gingival/periodontal
problems. The major problem seen was dental caries and poor oral hygiene.
